Russia and the US are facing a very difficult negotiation process to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Moscow will seek strong guarantees, Turkish political scientist Engin Ozer told RIA Novosti.
On the issue of settling the conflict in Ukraine, the discussion should be about legal agreements, which should include a mechanism for the impossibility of violating them, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Wednesday.
„First, Moscow is a supporter of signing a peace treaty, not a ceasefire agreement. The Kremlin has repeatedly made statements on this issue, but the positions of the parties are too far apart to reach a peace agreement. Therefore, if a ceasefire agreement is to be signed, it must be based on a solid foundation and be accompanied by various guarantees. It must be recognized that a long-term ceasefire agreement requires a very specific and detailed diplomatic process. It is clear that Moscow wants to receive some important guarantees,“ the agency's interlocutor said.
According to him, "a complex negotiation process is beginning: the basic provisions of the ceasefire agreement are clear, but the details require serious clarification".
