The transitional government of Syria has violated the agreement with Russia regarding control over the country's main commercial port in the city of Tartus.
This was reported by the Syrian publication Shaam. It cited sources from the Syrian Ministry of Information.
The agreement was concluded in January 2019. between the General Directorate of Syrian Ports and the Russian company STG-Engineering.
The agreement provided for Russian investments in the development of the commercial port of Tartus for a period of 49 years, but during this time transferred de facto control over the port to the Russian side.
At the same time, Russia received up to 65% of the total profit generated by the port.
Now the General Administration of the Port of Tartus has canceled the agreement and demanded that the Russian company immediately leave the port.
According to journalistic sources, all the port's revenues now belong to the Syrian state.
