Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai criticized European Union diplomacy chief Kaya Kallas for her statements during her visit to Israel, where she defined Iran as a threat. In a statement to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Baghai called her words “baseless, illogical and hypocritical”, BTA reports.
During a conference in Jerusalem, Kallas said that Iran poses a threat to regional and global security and that the country should never acquire nuclear weapons.
In response, Bagai stressed that if the new head of European diplomacy is truly concerned about stability in the region, she should pay attention to Israel's military actions in Gaza, its aggression against Lebanon and Syria, as well as the territorial occupations it is carrying out.
“Unlike her predecessors, who at least formally adhered to the principles of international law, Ms. Kallas speaks boldly, but in a way that - even if it is the result of inexperience - further damages the credibility of Europe in the eyes of impartial observers,“ Bagai said.
