The European Union has not received a letter from the United States in which President Donald Trump's administration wants the countries to submit their best offer in trade talks by Wednesday, a source familiar with the talks said, Reuters reported.
After a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Trump restored the July 9 deadline for talks between Washington and Brussels to continue.
However, it is not clear whether the letter has already been sent to the negotiating partners.
A European Commission spokesman declined to provide details of documents and offers exchanged between the EU and the United States in their trade talks.
"What we can say is that after the recent "during the conversation between President von der Leyen and President Trump, both sides agreed to accelerate the pace of negotiations," the spokesperson noted, referring to this week's talks with technical teams in Washington and the upcoming meeting between European Trade Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Paris.
