A Colombian presidential candidate in next year's elections was shot, world agencies reported, quoted by BTA.
Senator Miguel Uribe was wounded in Bogota. The government described the shooting as an attack.
A video on social networks shows the 39-year-old politician giving a speech at a rally in the western part of the Colombian capital when shots are heard. Other footage shows Uribe lying in a pool of blood.
Bogotá Mayor Carlos Galán said that Uribe was taken to the emergency room, and a suspect in the shooting was detained. According to doctors, three bullets penetrated Uribe's body, two of which were in the head, Agence France-Presse reported. According to the local newspaper “Tiempo“, Uribe's attacker is 15 years old.
The leftist government of Colombia categorically condemned the attack on Uribe, describing it as an attack on democracy, freedom of thought and the legitimate right to exercise politics.
Miguel Uribe is from the Democratic Center Party. Its leader is former President Alvaro Uribe, who ruled the country from 2002 to 2010. Miguel Uribe announced his candidacy for president last October.
Before it was announced that the gunman had been captured, Colombian Defense Minister Pedro Sanchez announced a $700,000 reward for anyone who could provide information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
