Major General of the German Armed Forces Christian Freuding has proposed striking Russian airfields and infrastructure to help Ukraine more effectively counter Russia's growing air superiority in the conflict in Ukraine.

He expressed his position on the Bundeswehr's YouTube channel.

„We can indirectly influence the fact that the offensive potential of the Russian armed forces is not revealed at all. The first option, of course, is to conduct offensive anti-aircraft operations ourselves, using long-range means, in principle, means of air warfare — planes that hit airfields before they can be used," he said.

According to the German general, defense industry enterprises could also be targets. He acknowledged that Moscow had made significant progress in missile production and called for the development of the Russian military-industrial complex to be hindered.

“Here we need to think again whether what we have done in terms of economic measures is enough and where we can find levers to reduce Russian production, especially in this area“, concluded Freuding.

Last week, Freuding said that Ukraine needed “missile systems capable of hitting targets deep inside Russian territory: warehouses, command posts, airfields and aircraft“, and Germany would provide Kiev with financial support for the acquisition of such missiles. He noted that the situation on the front for Ukraine is now “certainly tense“ and Russian troops “have held the initiative for several weeks, if not months“.

According to him, the situation in Ukraine in the air, especially in large cities, has worsened in recent weeks.
