Australia will expel the Iranian ambassador to Canberra over Iran's involvement in two anti-Semitic attacks in the country, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced today, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
Australian intelligence services have concluded that Iran is linked to two attacks - a restaurant in Sydney and a mosque in Melbourne, Albanese said.
These two cities have seen a sharp increase in anti-Semitic incidents since the start of the war between Israel and "Hamas" in October 2023.
"The Australian Intelligence and Security Organization (AIS) has gathered enough credible information to reach a profound and disturbing conclusion. The Iranian government directed at least two of these attacks. "Iran has tried to cover up its involvement, but the AORD assesses that it is behind the attacks," Albanese told reporters, referring to the main domestic intelligence agency.
