Elizabeth II was a supporter of the UK remaining in the EU, claims a book written by royal biographer Valentine Lowe, BNR reported.
A new book claims that Elizabeth II was a supporter of remaining in the EU and would have voted against Brexit if she had been allowed. The late queen, who was required to remain politically neutral, said: “It is better to stick with the devil you know“.
A new book by Valentine Lowe aims to reveal “the secret and little-understood relationship between the monarchy and the government“ through nearly 100 interviews with senior politicians, civil servants and royal aides, according to the author. The book contradicts previous reports about Elizabeth II's views on Brexit.
During the referendum campaign, the Sun newspaper published the article "Queen supports Brexit" because she believes the EU is moving in the wrong direction. However, Lowe claims that although the late Queen had read articles about Brussels bureaucracy and noted that it was "absurd", she believed in cooperation with the EU. The author even writes that former Prime Minister David Cameron knew about the Queen's views and hesitated about using them in the campaign, ultimately deciding not to do so, although the "Brexit camp" had no such scruples.
