Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko held talks in Tianjin, where the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit is being held, China Central Television reported.
The Belarusian leader arrived in China to participate in the SCO summit and events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japanese militarism and the end of World War II.
The SCO summit, attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of more than 20 countries, will open in Tianjin, China on August 31. According to Vice Foreign Minister Liu Bin, this will be the largest forum of the association in its entire history. In addition to the leaders of the SCO member states and a number of other countries, the summit will be attended by the heads of 10 international organizations, including UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, CIS Secretary-General Sergei Lebedev, and Association of Southeast Asian Nations Secretary-General Kao Kim Horn.
The Tianjin Declaration is scheduled to be signed during the forum. The leaders of the participating countries will also have to approve the SCO Development Strategy until 2035, which will outline the key goals of cooperation. In addition, statements are expected to be made on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the UN and the victory in the World Anti-Fascist War.
