Three hospitals teamed up to overcome a rare anomaly in a child - 1

The teams of the Clinic of Pediatric Surgery, Clinic of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, and the Pediatric Operating Room at the University Hospital "N. I. Pirogov" together with fellow anesthesiologists and pediatric surgeons of the University Hospital "Sveta Marina" EAD - Varna, successfully carried out the treatment of a pediatric patient with a rare congenital anomaly of the esophagus.

This was announced on their Facebook page by the Pirogov Pediatric Surgery.

The diagnosis, whose frequency is between 1:50 thousand and 1:80 thousand, was made immediately after the child's birth at the AG Hospital "Prof. Dr. Dimitar Stamatov " Varna.

The baby was transported from Varna to Sofia with the newest neonatal ambulance "I Believe and Help", provided to the seaside capital as a result of the charity campaign of the same name.

The medical team of SBAGAL "Prof. Dr. Dimitar Stamatov" – Varna, safely transferred the 20-day-old patient with stable vital signs to Pirogov Hospital, whose arrival was previously coordinated between the specialists.

"Together with our colleagues from "St. Marina" – Varna, we confirmed the diagnosis of the little patient and prepared a treatment plan. In the operating room, we joined forces with several teams. Everything went according to the protocol and according to our previously outlined strategy" – explained Prof. Dr. Hristo Shivachev, head of the general team.

After a short period of highly specialized resuscitation care at the Pirogov Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Clinic, the baby was admitted for further treatment to the Department of Surgery of the Newborn and Congenital Anomalies in the largest emergency hospital.

This makes it possible to combine professional medical care and the aspiration of Children's Surgery - Pirogov to maintain the connection between young patients and their families.
This leads to a more complete recovery of children and reduces the burden of negative emotions that usually accompany the diagnosis of a health problem and treatment in a hospital.

At the end of last week, the baby's condition allowed him to be discharged for recovery at home. A series of check-ups are ahead, with a prognosis for completely normal development and growth of the child.

“With colleagues from Varna, we are expecting a photo from the first birthday of our little hero!” – share with a smile from the team of Pediatric Surgery – Pirogov.
