"We Continue the Change" is convening a General Assembly to elect new party leadership, which will take place today and tomorrow in Sofia, the political force's press center reported, quoted by BTA.

The party forum will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the “Inter Expo Center“ building.

At the General Assembly, delegates must elect chairman/co-chairmen and members of the Executive Council, the National Council, the Control Council and the Ethics Commission of “We Continue the Change“. Changes to the party's statute will also be voted on, as well as a new political platform of the formation.

Svenja Han - Chairman of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, will greet the delegates (ALDE), Valerie Aye - Chairman of the liberal group "Renew Europe" in the European Parliament, the Chairman of the Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB) Atanas Atanasov and the Co-Chairman of "Yes, Bulgaria" Bozhidar Bojanov, the press release states.

At the end of June, Kiril Petkov resigned as Co-Chairman of "We Continue the Change" after a scandal related to allegations of pressure exerted on the district mayors of "Lyulin" and "Mladost" for public procurement. Prior to that, Petkov also submitted his resignation as a Member of Parliament. At a meeting of the National Council of "We Continue the Change" that lasted more than seven hours, it was decided that Assen Vassilev would remain the sole chairman of the party until the holding of a reporting-election General Assembly on September 27-28.

Until the change in the leadership of “We continue the change“ came after the mayors of the Sofia districts "Mladost" and "Lyulin" and two municipal councilors announced that they were leaving the formation on the grounds that they were being pressured by the party. Officers of the Anti-Corruption Commission conducted searches in the Sofia Municipality, and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office charged four people with taking bribes and participating in an organized criminal group. Later, Sofia Deputy Mayor Nikola Barbutov left the Sofia Municipality building, accompanied by police, and currently remains in custody.
