The Sofia Municipality held an extraordinary briefing today, at which the Deputy Mayor for Ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva, the Director of the Sofia Inspectorate Nikolay Nedelkov, and the Director of the SPTO Nikolay Savov announced that the crisis organization in “Lyulin“ and “Krasno Selo“ will not be canceled until 100% garbage collection on schedule is achieved.
“The fact that we have to hold extraordinary briefings means that we are not yet where we want to be – to fully restore garbage collection on schedule in Lyulin and Krasno Selo. We will not cancel the crisis organization until we achieve 100% cleaning on schedule,“ said Ms. Bobcheva.
The weekend turned out to be more difficult than expected, and this morning there are still critical points that the Municipality will clean and remove as a priority today. The main reason for the delay is the experienced shortage of human resources (drivers and workers), which did not allow the mobilization of all available trucks.
The problem has been partially solved with the arrival of new teams today. As of today, a representative of “Sofekostroy” - the municipal company subordinate to the Sofia Municipal Council, which is expected to permanently take over waste removal in both regions, is also included in the crisis headquarters.
Ms. Bobcheva thanked the residents of Lyulin and Krasno Selo for their patience and called: “Once again, I ask everyone to use the colored containers for packaging. There were many active volunteers this weekend, and there are also such volunteers during the week – a huge thank you to them on behalf of the entire team.“
In order to clear the waste accumulated over the weekend, today the teams will work in parallel according to a schedule and on signals for places that urgently need garbage removal. The goal is for everything accumulated from the previous days in “Lyulin” to be removed within the day.
The Director of the Sofia Inspectorate Nikolay Nedelkov specified that today the Municipality has a total of 8 teams with large garbage collection trucks: 6 from SPTO (including 2 from “gorata.bg”, 1 from Panagyurishte and 1 from Elin Pelin) and 2 from “Sofekostroy” with experienced crews. Separately, 5 more small trucks are planned for more difficult-to-reach places, 1 truck with a clamp, 1 multi-lift and 1 four-cubic meter truck for bulky waste.
"For 100% service on schedule, the two regions need 24 trips a day, which requires 12 trucks with teams - this is the full mobilization we are striving for" added Nedelkov.
Last week, over 4,000 points were treated with disinfestation, disinfection and deratization within a perimeter of between 100 and 150 meters from each container. At the moment, there are no indications of a need for repetition.
