Yesterday, Borisov stated for the first time that the sanctions against Peevski are unfair. I have no doubt that he had a similar type of conversation with various state leaders, but this has nothing to do with lifting the sanctions. This was said in the show "Face to Face" on BTV by PR expert Diana Damyanova in connection with the words of the GERB leader about how he personally negotiated with his British colleague to lift the "Magnitsky" sanctions of the leader of DPS-New Beginning and the subsequent response from the British embassy.
There is no change in the fact that there is talk of "Magnitsky", the change is that Borisov officially stands in defense of Peevski, she said.
When you are dependent, you follow the will of the one you are dependent on. We discover this dependence of GERB and Borisov on Peevski in many aspects, added political scientist Prof. Svetoslav Malinov.
But what does Borisov gain from defending Peevski - absolutely nothing, it's just that his associate and closest political ally asked him to defend him because he knows that there was never a chance of lifting the sanctions unless there was some political breakthrough. These sanctions have no legal weight in our country, but they say that if those sanctioned were in Great Britain, they would be in prison, pointed out Prof. Malinov.
Borisov has dropped the reproaches against Peevski regarding "Magnitsky". The fact is that in an attempt to implement the "Magnitsky" sanctions in Bulgaria, we made a perversion by imposing them on about 400 innocent Bulgarian citizens. We brought "Magnitsky" into a round of replay and they lost their weight in Bulgaria, added Diana Damyanova.
When it came to the formulation of why the "Magnitsky" sanctions were being imposed on Peevski, Goranov and Ilko Zhelyazkov, the prosecutor's office said that there is no problem in Bulgaria, which showed the meaning of these external sanctions, noted Prof. Svetoslav Malinov.
The two also commented on the stability of the ruling majority, as well as the disputes surrounding Budget 2026.
There has not been such a majority in Bulgaria for 30 years. It can only be shaken from within. They are stable, but in the name of what they are stable, there are many answers from their side, said Diana Damyanova.
The whole point of the budget, the preservation of large expenditures, especially in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is done precisely to ensure stability - stability for the majority and the government for next year, and not for long-suffering. Just to push it this year so that we can go to the presidential elections. Whether this will happen depends on the actions of many political actors in Bulgaria. This budget very insidiously distributes the damage – a little loan, a little tax "dividend". The direction is bad – stability for the majority and the government at the cost of medium-term problems. This is a budget for the clientele of GERB and DPS. They will defend this government, and the bill will be paid by all of us, emphasized Prof. Malinov.
The budget has two problems. One is that the entire burden is transferred to the backs of the private sector, while those working in the state sector snap their fingers. The second threshold of true injustice with regard to the budget is that it does not propose a single reform in the public sector. This budget is more left-wing than those who create it, also stated Diana Damyanova.
