“At this stage and as of today, the most important thing is to preserve the refinery. It is structurally decisive for the country, thousands of people work there, it is important for the entire region, security of supplies, so that they can guarantee the capacity for processing and production of petroleum products”. This was stated by Vice President Iliana Yotova to journalists near the village of Debelt, Sredets Municipality.
„The National Assembly voted on a very hastily drafted law, which we will yet see how the government itself imagines it, because this law will require many sub-normative acts and regulations to guarantee and determine the functions of this special manager”, Yotova said.
„Yesterday we heard a slogan from Mr. Borisov that we have even upgraded the German scheme, which has been in place since 2022. But let us know that this system in Germany has already existed for three years. Soon their Chancellor, Mr. Merz, will extend the state management of their refinery until 2026. That is, it is not about sale or nationalization. Let's see what the government will offer with the Bulgarian version. The only thing that bothered me was the way they adopted it — very quickly, in record time of 30 seconds. I don't understand why this urgency was necessary. The things could have been discussed quite easily, thought through, and the entire National Assembly could have participated. Because this issue requires something even more than parliamentary consensus - it requires national consensus. Because if we lose the refinery, Bulgaria will find itself in an extremely difficult situation,” said Yotova.
