Under my leadership, the Ministry of the Interior managed to achieve the results necessary for us to become a member of the Schengen area. Under my leadership, the Schengen check was actually carried out at the end of last year, in which experts from 14 countries participated. The extremely high rating we received there really contributed the most to being at this ceremony today.
This was stated by the resigned Minister of Internal Affairs, Kalin Stoyanov, who took part in the ceremony at Sofia Airport on the acceptance of Bulgaria into Schengen by air and water, Novini.bg reported.
"I want to thank all the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who tirelessly protect the borders of Bulgaria. They have the biggest role in our entry into Schengen. We continue to work and make efforts to enter through land borders as well. The goal of the Ministry of Interior is to guard the borders and show illegal migrants that it will be very difficult for them to cross our borders to reach Western Europe. I hope that with the results we are currently achieving, land border controls will be abolished by the end of this year. We are absolutely ready", Stoyanov was categorical.
"You have not forgotten that nine months ago I received an offer from Kiril Petkov to become a member of the "Denkov" as an expert. I have always said that I am not politically affiliated. I am equally distant from all political parties and their leaders. If Mr. Glavchev invites me to the official office, I am ready to stay in the post," answered Kalin Stoyanov when asked if he would accept a possible invitation to participate in the official office.
