Democracy is expensive – in recent years we have spent BGN 710 million on elections, and soon this amount may reach one billion. This is what he said in the show “This Sunday” the political scientist Petar Cholakov.
He, together with the professor of constitutional law Associate Professor Borislav Tsekov, commented on Dimitar Glavchev's requests for the formation of a caretaker government.
„ Mr. Glavchev himself, as I suppose everyone remembers, was the chairman of the National Assembly from the GERB political party. His term as chairman was quite short – ended in 6-7 months, after he expelled Cornelia Ninova from the plenary hall and it became a big political scandal”, Petar Cholakov recalled.
The political scientist believes that the task of every acting prime minister is related to the preparation of the early elections and wished Dimitar Glavchev, if possible, not to enter into conflicts with the leader of the BSP or with other politicians in the next few months.
„Regarding Mr. Glavchev, we should also say that he is an economist. It has been emphasized in recent days that these elections will cost us quite a lot. In recent years, we have spent BGN 710 million on elections. I think that this amount will soon swell to one billion BGN. That's why I wish him success," he explained.
„I do not take seriously these political incantations and clichés about “bright party figures” in the official government. After all, we elect a government, and there are no more political positions than those of ministers, along with people's representatives. The idea that we will remove some administrators, without any political experience, from their offices and offices is not only frivolous, but it is also harmful to the state,”, Assoc. Professor Borislav Tsekov also commented on the topic.
According to him, there is a difference between administrative and political experience, and the former is not enough to run the country. He set an example with Stefan Sofianski, Prof. Ognyan Gerdzhikov and Prof. Georgi Bliznashki.
„The whole problem is this – will they allow, and I hope not, these bad precedents of recent years for their use directly by the president to run the country. Some acting prime ministers and ministers tried to make long-term decisions and purge personnel. This should not be allowed, he explained.
