„We must have pessimism of reason and optimism of will. I see optimistic developments. I believe that the protests of 4 years ago today were historically important for Bulgaria and led to positive results. First of all, unification of people, getting out of lethargy, reforms of institutions, anti-corruption measures, judicial reform. Then the leader of all this was President Radev. We have to admit that.“
This is what he said in the show “This morning“ the former deputy prime minister for management of European funds in four offices Atanas Pekanov.
„A lot remains to be done. Changes that are committed to the Recovery Plan are delayed. I hope that colleagues from GERB in this parliament will be willing to move it forward. Infrastructure projects have been delayed. We do not receive European funds as we did when Borissov ruled – this is true. We have been slow with the Eurozone. But we have to be realistic and fight to prevent this from happening, so that others do not become victims of positive changes," said Pekanov.
„The so-called assembly of parts rehabilitates some political forces. There must be a government because we are late with many things. Reforms are delayed. The idea of constitutional changes was a big mistake of the assembly. Instead of dealing with things that are set in the PVU, they were dealing with other things. We currently have an official office which “allegedly“ it was supposed to be controlled by the parliament, but the parliament is so fragmented that it can neither control the official cabinet nor make the important decisions. The official office has no direction”, added Atanas Pekanov.
„The work in the National Assembly is not moving forward. There are five laws that we must pass in order to receive the money under the second tranche of the PVU. I didn't see any mention of them in the campaign. Not sure if it will work now too. This delay will lead to millions of losses for the Bulgarian citizens. We still have BGN 8 billion to receive, of which I think we will receive a small part. In my opinion, we will take half of the second payment under the PVA”, he added.
"I don't know how a government will be formed, but it has to be. A week ago, it looked like there was no chance of forming a government with a third term. Without a political cabinet, we cannot fight so hard for the Eurozone. We cannot about what the next budget of the European Union will be. There is a high probability that we will start all money, as PVU. This has positives, but it also leads to not so good developments", commented Pekanov.
