Someone should have said that the people's opinion is important

President Radev proposed a constitutionally compliant procedure. He proposed that the National Assembly accept or reject the referendum decision. This was said by Slavi Vassilev in the program "The Day Begins" on BNT.

"Someone should have said that the people's opinion is important in this process. The people responsible for this process do not pay attention to the tension. This is a process after which there is no turning back. A process that concerns people's money. I am convinced that Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone is theoretically good for it. But the political class must provide answers - for example, what will happen to the fiscal reserve," added Vassilev.

According to Assoc. Prof. Stoycho Stoychev, the referendum decision means - categorical rejection of the euro. "No EU member state has ever held a referendum on the euro", he added.

And he added that the parliament is faced with three hypotheses. "The first - to call a referendum and reject Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone, not just for 2026, but forever. There are two sides to our acceptance into the eurozone, ours and the other side. If a referendum is called, the other side will not accept Bulgaria into this club. The second hypothesis - the National Assembly rejects the referendum. The third option is to approach it with the same level of cynicism - to call a referendum on the eurozone, but at the next presidential elections," Stoychev pointed out.

Regarding Krum Zarkov's decision to resign as an advisor to the president, Slavi Vassilev believes: "He buckled under the pressure. But the president's decision is not unconstitutional".
