Dragomir Stoynev: The crisis in Sofia's public transport could not have happened

The President should not have asked for this referendum, he also believes

This crisis in Sofia's public transport could not have happened. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Dragomir Stoynev, chairman of the parliamentary group of "BSP - United Left".

"In 2025, the state gave 17 million more for public transport in Sofia. There was time and opportunities for talks. The unions have been giving signals for a long time about deepening the problem. Unfortunately, the mayor did not seek dialogue with the state, nor with the Municipal Council and the relevant committees.

Stoynev called for the strike actions to be suspended on May 21 and 23, when the high school graduation exams will be held.

"The future of young people cannot be held captive by the strike actions."

He explained that the BSP has prepared an initiative to assist families in difficulty during these days. There will be a phone number they can call, Stoynev explained.

The chairman of the parliamentary group of "BSP - United Left" categorically denied that there was organized pressure from the coalition at the national level on the mayor of the capital.

"When more and more people are withdrawing from a given mayor, the problem is not in those who surround him, but perhaps in the personality and manner of communication and conducting politics by the mayor himself".

He commented on the BSP's position on the referendum requested by the president.

The centenarian supported the introduction of the euro and announced that with her participation in the government she would be a guarantor of preserving the welfare of Bulgarian citizens.

"The BSP has always placed the state interest above the party's interest," Stoynev pointed out.

The president is a respected figure in the BSP, but this does not lead to agreement with every position he has, the chairman of the party's parliamentary group also noted.

Bulgaria has long chosen its European path development, Stoynev pointed out.

"The role of the president is to calm society when there is tension. He should also seek dialogue between political forces. He, as head of state, should not have taken this step".

Dragomir Stoynev responded to the criticism of Krum Zarkov, according to whom "the BSP has taken a path that leads to marginalization".

"With the governments "Petkov" and "Zhelyazkov" it is trying to get out of the party crisis by participating in power, but I am skeptical about the result", Zarkov, who is still a member of the BSP, also pointed out.

"The time has passed when the BSP excluded those who have a different opinion.

The new leadership takes responsibility in the name of the state, regardless of the cost. And the state needs stable governance".

Stoinov noted that the state government follows priorities set out in the Centennial Party's election program.
