The investigation against the animal torturers from Pernik is going international

Investigators have sent European investigation warrants to the USA and Lithuania – the countries where the two payment systems are based

The investigation against the animal torturers from Pernik is going international. This was announced by the District Prosecutor's Office in the city. The investigators have sent European investigation warrants to the USA and Lithuania – the countries where the two payment systems are based. The aim is to find the clients of the accused for the crimes, Gabriela Sashova and Krasimir Georgiev, and to find out how much they made from filming torture for payment.

After their arrest, the forensic experts announced that the two had tortured and killed animals on behalf of clients from all over the world. If clients are found, they will be prosecuted as instigators who persuaded the detainees to commit a crime, the state prosecution threatened. According to initial estimates, this is about 2 thousand people.

Animal rights defender Yavor Gechev said in the studio of “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS that the figure is shocking. He indicated that he had spoken with his colleagues from the US, who shared that a crime of such magnitude is happening for the first time in a country that has legislation to protect animal rights.

Cyber expert Yavor Kolev said that the crime could involve even more than 2 thousand people. He indicated that the investigation will probably also be focused on electronic communication.

The expert was categorical that there should be changes to the Law and added that the texts in the Criminal Code regarding children can be directly transposed.

Gechev said that there is a connection between crimes against children and those against animals.

He explained that the Council of Ministers has already submitted proposals to parliament for changes to several laws on such crimes. One such proposal concerns the use of special intelligence tools in cases of animal abuse.

Gechev stated that there will be a qualitative change in terms of the investigation, but the Ministry of Internal Affairs must exercise control.
