The Eurozone will not affect the price of electricity. On January 1, 2026, it will only be divided by 1.95583, which is the lev - euro exchange rate.

This was stated by the Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov to the Bulgarian National Radio and specified:

"Household consumers will continue to be on the regulated market. The only thing that changes is the compensation mechanism - if until now the "Energy System Security" Fund has directed the compensation to NEK, now this compensation is directed to household consumers. The state guarantees in the long term that the price of household consumers will be known as early as July 1st and will be such until June 30th next year, and entry into the eurozone will not affect it in any way. ... After January 1st, the groundless concerns about the introduction of the euro will disappear. ... Every institution and this government will apply the full rigor of the law if someone starts playing with prices and the exchange rate, so citizens should be calm".

By preserving the regulated price mechanism, we are pulling the handbrake on any inflationary processes that may occur and hit Bulgarian households in the pocket, he emphasized.
The day and night electricity tariffs will be preserved - the state will continue to differentiate these two tariffs, the Minister of Energy announced.
In the "Energy" sector the introduction of the euro has many benefits:

"Entering the eurozone will provide a chance to implement key projects - the Vertical Gas Corridor, the 7th and 8th units of the "Kozloduy" NPP. The financing that we would receive if we were part of the eurozone will be many times cheaper and will provide a chance when a project is implemented cheaper and its cost is cheaper, so the prices at which it must operate to produce energy will be significantly lower. The advantages that the euro gives us in terms of investment climate and in terms of implementing large energy projects are a good thing".
In the words of Zhecho Stankov "by the middle of the year" the report on the cost and construction period of the 7th and 8th units of the "Kozloduy" NPP must be ready.

"The Bulgarian state wants these two reactors to be built - with the best technologies, which are on the "Westinghouse" AP1000; and under the best financial conditions, because this will allow the price of the produced energy to be as low as possible for Bulgarian citizens and businesses".
About the equipment for the "Belene" NPP There is no current decision of the National Assembly and the Ministry of Energy is ready to fulfill its tasks, taking into account any decision taken by the parliament, the Minister of Energy emphasized.
Regarding the investigation of the Anti-Corruption Fund into the hidden energy holding "Orion", Stankov stated that it refers to the actions of private companies, but "the state energy sector is in order".
