Prime Minister: The case in Ruse shows that we have reached a moment of targeted attacks on institutions

Rosen Zhelyazkov opened a new sensor line on the border with Turkey

“Targeted attacks on institutions undermine the trust of society“. This was stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in connection with the incident with the head of the ODMVR–Ruse Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov. The Prime Minister emphasized that institutions are the basis of statehood and that the government firmly stands behind every representative of power. Rosen Zhelyazkov called on the society to respect institutions and not to undermine trust in them.

“The case in Ruse shows that we have reached a moment of targeted attacks on institutions over the past few years. This led to a breakdown of trust, a lack of synchronization and interaction between the authorities, just because of the search for a short-term political dividend to build a new party and participate in campaigns that use means and methods to undermine the authority of the institutions“, the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister opened a new sensor line on the state border with the Republic of Turkey in the area of the village of Krainovo, built under the project “Expanding the scope of an integrated surveillance system along the Bulgarian-Turkish border - stage 4“. The line is part of the overall program of the Ministry of Interior for the construction of sensor lines, stationary posts and mobile surveillance systems, with the aim of more effective protection of the external border of the European Union.

“The next technological introduction and facility becomes part of the overall system for protecting the European border. This is not just the border between Bulgaria and Turkey, this is the border between the rest of the world and the European Union. Border police officers are those worthy women and men who tirelessly, without working hours, without guaranteed rest, and sometimes without leave, do what is necessary for Bulgarians and Europeans to live peacefully“, said the Prime Minister.

“Where the path of the sewermen ends, the duty of the Bulgarian border police officer begins. Thank you for your dedication! Thank you for the magnificent results!“, said the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov. He highlighted the key role of border police officers in protecting the busiest border of the European Union. “Your work not only protects us from the chaos of illegal migration, but also protects us from one of the most serious crimes today - human trafficking“, Daniel Mitov was categorical. He assured that the ministry's management will continue to take care of its employees both in terms of personnel and technology.

By the end of the year, the Bulgarian-Turkish border will become a modern example of effective security and innovation, noted Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, Director of the Main Directorate “Border Police“ at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He emphasized that the border with Turkey will be equipped with the full range of necessary components - both technical and engineering solutions. Commissioner Zlatanov added that the fleet of newly purchased Border Police vehicles already exceeds 500.

In early June, the Minister of Internal Affairs Daniel Mitov, together with the Austrian Minister Gerhard Karner, opened the 23rd sensor line in the area of the village of Golyam Dervent. Today, a more complex section near Bolyarovo is being put into operation with 101 thermal cameras along 5 km of the border line. By the end of September, two more lines are expected to be opened - SL33 with 106 cameras and SL21 with 101 cameras, and by the end of the year, the government plans to build six more new sensor lines.
