If the US delivers "Tomahawk" missiles to Ukraine for strikes deep into Russian territory, this would constitute a new dangerous escalation between Russia and the West, warned Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Moscow is aware of reports that Washington is considering such a step, he added. “If the US takes it, this would require a response from the Russian side“, Peskov stressed to journalist Pavel Zarubin.
At the same time, he noted that no arms deliveries to Kiev would be able to radically influence the course of the special operation in Ukraine, as Russia calls its actions there. "It is obvious that there is no magic pill, there is no magic weapon for the Kiev regime. None of the weapons can radically change the course of events," Peskov said.
US Vice President J.D. Vance said on Sunday that the United States is considering Ukraine's request for Tomahawk missiles, Reuters recalls.
Europe is the main factor complicating the achievement of peace and encouraging Kiev to continue the war, the Kremlin spokesman also said. "The Europeans have taken a rather extreme position, this is obvious," he added, citing information from TASS. According to him, Ukraine does not want to negotiate a peaceful settlement of the conflict with Russia.
"There is a pause in the negotiations, an unclear horizon for their continuation. The position of the Kiev regime is quite abstract. They do not want to continue the negotiations; "they don't want to try to agree on anything," Peskov said. He noted that this does not contribute to establishing predictability and stability, but the Russian side should "calmly do its job."
Moscow's assessments are based on the fact that the United States retains the political will to redirect the settlement of the conflict to the political and diplomatic channel. "The statements may be of a different nature, but in any case we proceed from the fact that Washington retains the political will to continue directing actions to the political and diplomatic channel," Peskov commented. "However, we proceed from this, this is the most important thing," he added, adding that "this is being hindered."
A month and a half after the summit in Alaska, however, peace is no closer, Peskov warned, quoted by Reuters.
