The war in Gaza can stop at any moment if both sides agree to Trump's peace plan, which seems very reasonable and realistic. This was commented on by MEP Elena Yoncheva in "The Day Begins" with Georgi Lyubenov.
"An important element is the plan for the reconstruction of Gaza. What is happening in Gaza, what happened on October 7, is a great tragedy for every family. The EU could have had a much more active position. A number of countries recognize Palestine, but this should have happened earlier so that this dialogue process could be realized".
According to her, it is still too early to talk about two states, but it is a good signal that the topic is already being discussed. According to her, the transitional administration in Gaza should be as neutral as possible, under the auspices of either the EU or the UN, in order to satisfy all parties.
The Israeli army has detained the second flotilla with humanitarian aid to Gaza, consisting of 47 ships with about 500 people from 40 countries. According to Yoncheva, this is a political message, not so much sending aid, because the travelers are aware that Israel has imposed a blockade.
"There are journalists detained and a French MEP - Rima Hassan, whose parents are Palestinians. The political message, if it does not cause escalation, if it does not disrupt these delicate diplomatic ties that are maintained by both Qatar and Egypt, may not be so disruptive. But there are many critical voices regarding the flotilla at this very moment when Trump is offering a realistic option for an immediate end to the war".
Elena Yoncheva explained that over the past year she has tried to go to Gaza, she has talked to Israeli, Palestinian representatives, Egyptian diplomats, but they have all refused due to security reasons.
According to her, the Bulgarian authorities are doing everything possible to return the Bulgarian detained with the flotilla.
"They are in contact, the Bulgarian consul is one of the first to talk to the man, he is in good health and I believe that he will be returned to Bulgaria very soon".
According to Elena Yoncheva, there are three scenarios for ending the war in Ukraine - the first is imposing more sanctions on Russia and sending more weapons to Ukraine, which, however, hits European citizens and industry. The second option is entering a war, which Europe cannot afford, and the third - gathering the warring leaders under the auspices of the EU:
"This is a powerful organization, we have this power and capacity to prepare a peace plan, which means concessions and compromises. The power of a politician is to make compromises that solve problems. The EU is a peace project".
