Le Parisien: French PM to present part of new cabinet tonight

Sébastien Lecornu has decided to announce full list of ministers in two stages, newspaper reports

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will present part of his new cabinet tonight, a month after his appointment, Le Parisien reported.

Sources at the newspaper claim that the prime minister has decided to announce the full list of ministers in two stages. However, their number will be significantly smaller than that of his predecessor François Bayrou. Media reports differ, indicating that instead of 35 ministerial portfolios, only 20 to 25 will be allocated.

According to La Tribune, Interior Minister Bruno Raillot, Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin and Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot are expected to keep their posts. Culture Minister Rachida Dati, Health Minister Catherine Vautrin and Overseas Territories Minister Manuel Valls are also expected to retain their positions. However, the issue of the Ministry of the Armed Forces, which Le Corneille led before his appointment as Prime Minister, remains open. La Tribune claims that former Chief of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces Thierry Bourcard is not running for the post, contrary to rumors, while Le Journal du Dimanche suggests that former Prime Minister and current Minister of Education Elisabeth Borne will be nominated. On 8 September, the National Assembly (the lower house of the French parliament) voted in a vote of no confidence in the government led by François Bayroux over its proposed austerity measures, which included cuts to social benefits. The day after the vote, Bayrou resigned, after which President Emmanuel Macron appointed Le Corneille as Prime Minister.
