Today, with an extraordinary decision, Montenegro will impose a temporary visa regime for Turkish citizens, announced in a post on the social network former Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, quoted by MINA and “Türkiye Tudey“.
The measure comes after an incident on Saturday in the Montenegrin capital Podgorica, in which two Turkish citizens temporarily residing in Montenegro were detained for a fight in which a Montenegrin citizen was stabbed several times with a knife. According to information from the Montenegrin police, coordinated operations were carried out in Podgorica yesterday, during which a total of 45 Turkish citizens were detained, whose residence status will be checked and, if necessary, they will be expelled from the country.
“In order to maintain economic activity and good bilateral relations, we will begin intensive talks with the Republic of Turkey in the coming period to find the best model that is of mutual interest and is in the spirit of our good cooperation and alliance“, Spajic also wrote in his publication in Ex.
According to information from the Montenegrin police, as of September 30, there are 13,308 Turkish citizens with the status of “temporary residents” in Montenegro, and another 87 have a permanent residence permit in the country. The police also stated that during the first nine months of the year, 237 entry bans and 1,469 illegal residence permits were issued to Turkish citizens.
