Trump's friend who ruins lives

Until recently, she was considered an unbalanced peripheral figure. Today, however, she is so influential that destinies depend on her.

She calls them her "scalps": former members of the US government who have lost their jobs because Laura Loomer asked for it. Her "activity" works as follows: Loomer digs into the pasts of government officials and, as soon as she comes across something "suspicious", she immediately informs their bosses. And if they do not then fire the "suspect", she calls President Donald Trump directly, reports the German public broadcaster ARD.

As Loomer herself recently stated in a podcast, anyone whose unconditional loyalty to the president is in question should be fired. This applies, for example, to those who worked in Joe Biden's government. These people probably do not serve the interests of the United States or Trump's agenda, Loomer believes.

A decisive role in the removal of Mike Walz

It is believed that Loomer has so far adorned herself with at least 25 "scalps". But some observers believe that the number is much higher.

For example, Loomer played a decisive role in the removal of the US President's national security adviser Mike Walz, ARD recalls. As part of her investigations, she came across a 2016 video in which Walz makes serious criticism of Trump. Another famous "scalp" is that of General Timothy Howe, the head of the National Security Agency.

All of Loomer's victims lost their jobs because she considers them disloyal - not to the Constitution, but to the president. "Lummarizing someone" - that's what she calls what she does.

Trump as an ideology

Loomer's only ideology is called "Trump", says journalist David Gilbert, an expert on online extremism. According to him, she is guided by a single principle - that Donald Trump is the greatest president in the history of the United States. "She loves him unconditionally. That's why she says everything she believes he will like and that he wants to hear."

Loomer does not criticize the president publicly under any circumstances. When she doesn't like something, she directs her anger at members of the government. As happened recently, after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Qatar would be able to use an air base in Idaho for training its fighter pilots in the future.

Loomer immediately attacked Hegseth with the accusation that the Pentagon was encouraging the "Islamization" of the United States, and that the Qatari base would house "jihadists" who would "slaughter" Americans. The question was also raised whether Muslim prayers would not be heard at the military base in the future.

Loomer even concluded that she would probably not vote for Republican candidates again in the midterm elections next year. This is by no means a break with Trump, but it is the first crack in her unconditional trust in his administration, ARD explains.

"Friend" Trump, "extremist troll", "provocateur"

32-year-old Laura Loomer calls herself an investigative journalist. She was born in Florida and has twice run for a seat in Congress. Just a few years ago, before she reached the national scene, she was considered an unbalanced peripheral figure, part of the swamp of far-right online fanatics, like whom she tried to accumulate clicks and money with particularly absurd conspiracy stories, ARD recalls.

Now she feels at home in the White House and has the right to accompany the president on board his plane. Trump liked her, Loomer herself claims, the two were "friends". The president, for his part, has said publicly about her that she is a patriot and "a very nice person".

"Atlantic" magazine recently called her an "extremist troll" and "provocateur" - Laura Loomer was "the McCarthy of the Trump era". The publication refers to Republican Senator Joseph McCarthy, who in the 1950s organized a real witch hunt against alleged communists and against people he suspected of "un-American activities". His accusations ruined lives - even in cases where they were completely unfounded, and McCarthy's victims had not committed a single crime.

"It is incomprehensible to me"

Many online platforms have blocked Loomer for years because of her hateful messages, ARD points out. Even the taxi service company Uber has blocked her because Loomer says she does not want Muslims to drive her. However, VX has been very active since the platform became the property of billionaire Elon Musk.

Meanwhile, Loomer and the Republican Party's views are converging, says journalist David Gilbert. But it's not because Loomer has changed - the Republican Party has changed. "It's incomprehensible to me how someone who spreads disgusting, extremist, hateful tirades, conspiracy theories and baseless accusations is one of the people who has the most influence on who gets to work in the White House and what policies Trump pursues," says Gilbert.

And Loomer has no official government position at all - he doesn't even have a White House press pass.
