Poland plans to start developing a national anti-drone system within a few months, without waiting for the European Union's "drone wall" initiative, Bloomberg reports.
Poland's Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk told Bloomberg that the ministry will announce investments in technologies for detecting, suppressing and neutralizing drones as part of a broader air defense program.
The government wants the first new capabilities to be operational within three months, and the entire anti-drone system to be completed within two years.
According to Tomczyk, Poland will continue to participate in the pan-European initiative, but will prioritize national projects. At least half of the contracts are also expected to go to Polish manufacturers. He did not disclose the program's budget.
In September 2025, 21 drones entered Polish airspace in what authorities described as a Russian incursion. Polish and NATO air forces were sent to intercept the drones. Soon after, a pan-European initiative to build a "drone wall" and an air cover operation, "Eastern Guardian", were announced.
