Venezuela may request five types of weapons from Russia amid the latest statements by US President Donald Trump, writes the American publication Military Watch Magazine.

The publication notes that Caracas relies on Kh-32 missiles, Su-30M2 fighters, Bastion coastal defense system, Buyan-M/Karakurt class corvettes, and Varshavyanka class submarine.

According to the publication, currently the armed forces of Venezuela can threaten the US military with Kh-31A anti-ship missiles, which are launched from Su-30MK2s. However, the republic is experiencing a shortage of such aircraft. Russia has 19 of this type.

"Given that Russia has sharply increased the production of all types of fighters, it will probably be able to allocate its small number of Su-30M2s to support its strategic partner, which will effectively double Venezuela's modern air power," the article states.

Also, as MWM adds, "Bastion" will allow the country's anti-ship potential to be increased several times.

On November 1, it became known that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro had written a letter to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. In it, according to The Washington Post, the leader "asked Russia to help strengthen his country's air defenses, including the restoration of several Russian Su-30MK2 aircraft." Maduro also requested 14 missile kits, help with the repair of five radars, a "medium-term financing plan for three years," and "logistical support."
