Natalia Khodemchuk - wife of first Chernobyl victim Valery Khodemchuk, died last night after serious injuries sustained in Russian attack on Kiev a day earlier, Ukrinform reported, BTA reported.
"It is with deep sorrow and sincere sadness that we announce the death of Natalia Khodemchuk, wife of the first Chernobyl victim, Valery Khodemchuk - a mother, grandmother and woman with a huge heart and a remarkable destiny. "She died on the night of November 14-15, without surviving the severe consequences of drone strikes on a residential building in the Troeshchyna (neighborhood) (in the Desnyanskyi district of Kiev)," the Ukrainian State Agency for the Management of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone said in a statement.
It is reported that after the Shahed drones struck the building in Troeshchyna, where the families of former Chernobyl employees lived, Natalia Khodemchuk was hospitalized in critical condition with burns to 45% of her body. Her apartment was destroyed by fire. She was 73 years old.
"We have lost a woman who lived through the hell of Chernobyl, lost her husband, raised her children and experienced tragedies that would crush anyone. But not her. Natalia lived with dignity, love and a quiet strength that inspired everyone who knew her personally or through her story. She was cheerful, supportive and radiant. Now her voice joins the voices of all innocent Ukrainians killed by Russian terror," the agency responsible for the Chernobyl exclusion zone stressed.
Rescue operations in the Desnyansky district of Kiev, where a Russian strike was carried out on November 14, have ended.
Seven people were killed when a nine-story apartment building in the Ukrainian capital was hit by Russian drones. Natalia Khodemchuk is the latest victim in the attack.
