The European Commission is taking steps to strengthen the defense capacity of countries in Europe and the faster movement of troops in case of need, reported SIR (Servizio Informazione Religiosa).

The European Commission and the High Representative for Foreign Affairs are focusing on the preparedness of countries to defend themselves, including through the rapid and seamless movement of troops, equipment and military assets across Europe.

The Commission also aims to encourage innovation in the military sector and strengthen the European defense industry with a roadmap for the transformation of the defense industry.

By creating a pan-European military mobility area by 2027, the package for military mobility brings the European Union closer to a “military Schengen“, making the transfer of troops and military equipment across Europe faster, safer and more coordinated.

“The rapid movement of European armed forces is essential for Europe's defense. Defense readiness depends fundamentally on the ability to send tanks and troops where they are needed, when they are needed,“ said the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kalas.

The war in Ukraine has shown how quickly military technology is developing, with artificial intelligence, drones and other new technologies already being used on the battlefield, the commission said in a statement. Europe must learn from this experience, the European Commission said.
