Europe believes that Kiev should not make a deal with Russia without receiving security guarantees from the United States. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
According to sources of the publication, this issue was discussed during a December 1 phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
European leaders insisted that Washington should play a leading role in providing security guarantees for Ukraine.
Politicians stressed the need for the United States to clearly clarify its position on this issue, “before agreeing to Russia's demands“.
