US President Donald Trump has signed a memorandum ordering the US administration to take a set of measures to ensure US leadership in the development of 6G networks.
The document was published on the White House website.
According to the memorandum, US federal government agencies must move their communications systems out of the 7.125-7.4 GHz frequency band to free them up for full commercial use by 6G providers. The agencies must submit their plans for this transition within 12 months. The document also calls for a study of the 2.69-2.9 GHz and 4.4-4.94 GHz frequency bands to free up even more frequencies for commercial use of 6G.
The memorandum notes that the spectrum reallocation will allow US companies and their partners to understand which frequencies will be available to them when planning the development of 6G networks.
In addition, the US Secretary of State and other members of the administration are instructed to “promote American leadership in 6G through diplomatic engagements“.
