On the night of December 24, an armed clash broke out between terrorists who had infiltrated Tajikistan from Afghanistan and Tajik border guards, with casualties reported, the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan reported.

As a result of the operation, three members of a terrorist organization who illegally crossed the border in the Shamsidin Shokhin district of the Khatlon region of Tajikistan, which borders Afghanistan, offered armed resistance and were neutralized. Two Tajik border guards were killed. Three M16 assault rifles, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, three foreign-made pistols with silencers, 10 hand grenades, a night vision device, explosives and other ammunition were seized at the scene of the incident.

This is the third armed attack, terrorist act and border crossing from Afghanistan to Tajikistan in the past month, resulting in the deaths of civilians and military personnel,“ the department's statement emphasized.

The situation on the border remains calm after the terrorist attack, according to a statement from the press center of the Tajik State Committee for National Security, quoted by the Khovar news agency.

“Currently, the situation on the state border is calm. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, the statement added.

The Afghan Taliban government “is showing irresponsibility” in ensuring the security of the state border with Tajikistan amid attacks on the territory of the country, GKNB reported.

The statement added that the attacks show that “the Taliban government has demonstrated serious and repeated irresponsibility in fulfilling its international obligations and promises to ensure the security and stability of the state border with Tajikistan and to fight members of terrorist organizations“.
