China condemned a new US arms sale deal to Taiwan, saying it "accelerates the threat of war" in the Taiwan Strait, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
Last week, the United States announced an arms deal worth $11.1 billion, the largest ever US arms deal for the democratically-ruled island. Taiwan continues to reject Beijing's claims that it is part of Chinese territory.
At a regular press conference, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Zhang Xiaogang called on the United States to stop "all provocations" and correct their "wrong actions."
At the same time, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jiang accused Washington of trying to hinder the improvement of China-India relations. "We view our relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective. The border issue is a bilateral issue and we oppose any country that makes judgments on it," Lin stressed.
The Pentagon noted on Tuesday that China "is probably trying to take advantage of the reduced tension between Beijing and Delhi to stabilize bilateral relations and prevent the deepening of US-India ties."
