A man stabbed three women on Friday afternoon in the Paris metro, dariknews.bg reported. The attacker was later arrested not far from the capital, judicial authorities said after an inquiry by AFP.

The attacks took place at three stations on the same metro line in the center of the capital, the state-owned RATP company, which runs public transport, said.

Two of the injured women were taken to hospital by ambulance without life-threatening injuries, while the third went to the hospital alone, the police prefecture said.

The alleged perpetrator, aged 25, was identified “thanks to CCTV footage“. Already known to the police for various offences, including property damage, he was arrested "late in the afternoon in Val d'Oise", northwest of the capital, judicial authorities said.

An investigation has been launched by the regional transport security services for attempted murder and intentional violence with a weapon.

Paris Police Prefect Patrice Faure "welcomed the rapid response and mobilisation of his services for their intervention and the arrest of the person suspected of committing these acts".

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez had last week called on prefects and security officials to "maximum vigilance" as the New Year celebrations approached.

He noted at the time the "very high level of terrorist threat" and wished in particular that specific attention be paid to public transport.
