The one-hour phone call between US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky with European leaders focused on security guarantees and good progress was made.

This is what European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote in X after the talks in Florida.

„We had a good conversation with President Trump and Zelensky, which lasted one hour. Several European leaders participated in it and we discussed future peace talks. Good progress has been made. Europe is ready to work with its partners to consolidate this“, the EC President wrote. Europeans believe that the key to these efforts must be “the availability of ironclad security guarantees from day one”, von der Leyen added.

Negotiations on a Ukrainian agreement have made progress, but open questions remain. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced this after a phone call with other European leaders, US President Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.

“President Trump and Zelensky outlined the results achieved in the ongoing negotiations, in particular regarding security guarantees, and highlighted the remaining open questions. Meloni reiterated the importance of unity at a time when progress has been made in the negotiation process,“ the Italian prime minister said in a statement.

The need to protect the interests of Ukraine and its European partners was also stressed.
