The Russian Embassy in the United States has confirmed that two Russian citizens have been detained in California after an alleged “unauthorized entry“ into a military base.
Previously, several media outlets reported that the two Russian citizens were detained for entering Camp Pendleton, a military base in California.
“According to information from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service on January 26, two Russian citizens detained after “unauthorized entry“ into Camp Pendleton, a military base in California, were handed over to the embassy,“ the agency reported.
The Russian women are currently being held at a local deportation center awaiting repatriation. Consular officials are in contact with the country's immigration authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The embassy noted that the State Department has not yet notified diplomats of the Russian women's detention.
