A protest was held in Milan against the hosting of the Winter Olympics. According to organizers, holding them is harmful from an environmental and social point of view.

The demonstration turned into clashes after hooded youths began throwing hard objects at police. Law enforcement responded with water cannons and tear gas. Several demonstrators were arrested.

Opponents of the Olympics criticize the impact of the games on the infrastructure in the region, including the decision of the authorities to cut down hundreds of trees to build a bobsleigh track.

The protesters also chanted against the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tasked with protecting the American delegation.

Thousands gathered in in the center of Berlin in solidarity with the protests in Iran.

Organizers said the rally was attended by many relatives of people killed or arrested during the latest demonstrations in the Islamic State. The march was organized by the Society of Exiles and under the slogan "Freedom for Iran".

Many of the participants held pictures of Maryam Rajavi, chairwoman of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, an organization that is banned in the Islamic Republic. Rajavi herself addressed the demonstrators from the stage. Other speakers included former European Council President Charles Michel and a former German justice minister.
