At least 40 people were killed in a rocket attack on a girls' school in southern Iran, the state news agency IRNA reported, quoted by the Associated Press, BTA reports.

Forty-five people were wounded in the attack in the city of Minab, Horgan province, where the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps - the regime's military bulwark in Tehran - has a base.

At least 24 people were killed in a rocket attack on a girls' school in the south of the country after Israel and the United States began striking Iran, the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported earlier, citing local authorities, Reuters reported.

Tasnim initially reported 5 dead schoolgirls.

These are the first confirmed victims in Iran of the US-Israeli operation, the Associated Press notes.

The Israeli equivalent of the Red Cross, the "Magen David Adom" organization, for its part, reported that there was an injured person in northern Israel after rockets were fired at the country from Iran, Agence France-Presse reported.

Rescuers and emergency medical teams "inspected several locations where signals were received and are currently providing care to a man in his 50s who suffered minor injuries in an explosion in northern Israel", a statement from "Magen David Adom" said.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council recommended that residents leave the capital Tehran after the US-Israeli strikes, DPA reported.

Due to the situation, you should, as far as possible, while remaining calm, go to other settlements, the influential body said. There are no concerns about the supply of daily necessities, the statement noted, but people are urged to avoid gathering in shopping malls as this could be dangerous.

Schools and universities in Iran will remain closed until further notice. Banks will remain open. There will be restrictions on government services, the Council said.

An Iranian prayer mobile app has been hacked to display anti-government messages, the "Jerusalem Post" reported, citing posts by Iranians on social media before the internet was blocked in Iran following the start of US and Israeli strikes on the regime in Tehran.

Some of the messages encourage Iranian armed forces to defect and "protect their compatriots". Other messages read "Help is coming" and "It is time for a reckoning", the Israeli daily notes.

It is not clear who is behind the cyberattack. Last month, protests broke out in Iran against the country's economic crisis, which were brutally suppressed by the authorities.

Tens of thousands of Iranians are missing, and their families do not know whether they have been killed or detained, according to a report by the non-governmental organization "Human Rights Watch" published last week.

According to the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA), a number of state media outlets and related websites have also been targeted by cyberattacks. Internet monitoring organization "NetBlocks" confirms that after the hacks, Internet access in Iran has fallen to just 4 percent.
