The authorities in Washington waved Australian flags instead of British ones near the White House before the visit of the British King Charles III, reports Reuters, citing a Transport Department official.
The state visit of Charles III and Queen Camilla to the US, as previously announced by US President Donald Trump, is scheduled for April 27-30.
„The District of Columbia mistakenly waved a number of Australian flags instead of British ones near the White House before the visit of King Charles III to the US“, the agency writes.
According to the information, 15 Australian flags were briefly waved near the White House before being replaced with British ones. In total, more than 230 flags were flown around the city for the king's visit.
The agency notes that Charles III is the official head of state in Australia, but in reality this is a largely ceremonial role. Trump previously said he would discuss NATO and the US operation against Iran with King Charles III of Britain during his upcoming visit to Washington.
