The US military said it had destroyed four drones fired by Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi forces, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said on the X social network that the drones "posed an immediate threat to merchant vessels and US naval vessels in the region".
The drones were directed at a vessel of the international coalition for the protection of shipping in the region and at a US warship, which were currently in that area in the Red Sea. CENTCOM stated that the downing of the drones was undertaken "in terms of self-defense", and added that there were no reports of casualties or damage to US or coalition vessels.
