NATO countries became actively involved in the defense of Israel when Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles and threatened the country's security. The US, Great Britain and France helped Israel repulse the attack decisively.
At the same time, Ukraine urgently needs air defense and modern combat aviation, but is left almost alone against the Russian aggressor. President Volodymyr Zelensky also drew attention to this double standard. Why is there?
The reason is simple: Ukraine is being attacked by a nuclear state, and Israel is being attacked by a non-nuclear state. Russia has nuclear weapons and NATO countries do not want to risk escalation, writes The Atlantic. Not only does Russia possess nuclear weapons, it also constantly threatens to use them. And it is precisely this that deters NATO countries from directly participating in the defense of Ukraine.
In the case of Israel, the situation is radically different: Israel itself possesses nuclear weapons (although it does not directly admit it). “Nuclear weapons give you a lot more security. In certain circumstances, you may expect others to join your defense”, the author points out.
This determination by the West, amid its failure to support Ukraine, has angered Ukrainians. Even President Zelensky openly reproached Western partners for their double standards.
