Russia does not have sufficient forces for a major breakthrough in Ukraine. This was stated by American General Christopher Cavoli, who is the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe. He made this statement during a press conference in Brussels, reported world agencies quoted by BTA.
Ukraine said today it was slowing the advance of Russian forces in the northeast of the country, where the situation remains, as Volodymyr Zelensky said, extremely difficult. Moscow is leading an offensive there, which has made it possible to achieve territorial gains, which are its largest since the end of 2022, notes AFP.
"I am in close contact with our Ukrainian colleagues and I am confident in their ability to really resist," Cavoli said.
To counter this offensive, Kiev is insisting on speeding up arms and ammunition deliveries promised by allied forces and criticizing the much longer timelines for this.
Today, however, Cavoli assured that significant arms deliveries are now taking place. "We are sending them large quantities of ammunition, large quantities of short-range air defense systems and a significant number of armored vehicles at this time," he added.
On May 10, Russia launched a new land offensive in Kharkiv region, entering from the north in two border sectors - Vovchansk and Lukyantsi, populated areas located respectively fifty and thirty kilometers from Kharkiv.
Russian forces are taking advantage for this assault of the weakening of Ukrainian forces in recent months, at a time when Kiev is suffering from a shortage of men to go to the front and of weapons and ammunition due to delays in Western military aid, notes AFP .
Today in Brussels, Rob Bauer, the head of NATO's military committee, said that Russia is progressing faster when it comes to increasing its industrial capabilities in the field of defense compared to Europe and North America, Reuters reported.
