The West acts as harshly and “insanely” in relation to Georgia, as it previously failed to destabilize the situation in the country, as happened with Ukraine. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the television channel TVC.

„It didn't work out with Georgia. Therefore, they act harshly, act as efficiently as possible, as they think, from the point of view of the present moment. From our point of view, this is madness. But there is no other option: they don't know how, she noted.

According to Zakharova, the key factor for Georgia's resistance to Western influence is “the presence of people in the political system and Georgian society who are focused on the people and their country”, while “to a lesser extent” thinking about external factors.

On March 15, it became known that the foreign ministers of Iceland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia arrived in Tbilisi to discuss the law on foreign agents. They spoke with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili. Also, the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in a rally against the law on foreign agents. They came in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi and addressed the crowd. Chairman of the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" Irakli Garibashvili called these actions a gross interference in the internal affairs of the country.

On May 18, Zurabishvili announced that she vetoed the law “On the transparency of foreign influence“, which the Georgian parliament passed in its third reading.
