Russian drones cut off power in Ukraine's Sumy region

Fierce fighting continues on the Pokrov front in eastern Ukraine

Russian drones struck energy facilities early this morning and left parts of northern Ukraine's Sumy region without electricity, regional authorities said , quoted by Reuters and BTA.

In a post on the social network "Telegram" the Sumy regional administration indicated that the drones attacked targets in the cities of Shostka and Konotop, northeast of Kyiv and along the border with Russia.

Emergency crews are working to restore power.

After Russian troops began an offensive in the northeastern Kharkiv region a little over a week ago, Ukraine warned that a buildup of Russian forces was also being observed around the neighboring Sumy region and that this could be a sign of an upcoming offensive there as well.

Meanwhile, the fierce fighting of the Pokrovsky front in eastern Ukraine forced the Ukrainian troops to undertake "maneuvers", the General Staff of Kyiv announced in its evening briefing, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.

Pokrovsk, a town northwest of the Russian-controlled city of Donetsk, remains the "hottest" section of the front. Earlier in his evening video address, President Volodymyr Zelensky described the situation in this direction and in its adjacent areas as "extremely difficult".

"In some areas, the situation forced our troops to take maneuvers," the Ukrainian General Staff said.
