Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump attacked his new Democratic rival Kamala Harris, calling her an "ultraliberal driving force" who should be held accountable for the Biden administration's immigration policy, Reuters reported.
"Kamala opened our borders, allowing 20 million illegal aliens to flood into our country from all over the world," Trump said at a rally in North Carolina, his first since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race over the weekend.
Biden assigned Harris to work with Central American countries to help stem the tide of migration, but she was never given responsibility for border security, Reuters notes.
Amid wild cheers from the audience, the former president described Vice President Harris as the most liberal politician ever elected in American history.
"She will destroy our country if she is ever elected," the former president said at the event, which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of several battleground states considered crucial to winning the presidential race. election on November 5.
Harris, the first black and Asian-American woman to serve as vice president, will become the first woman elected president if she wins on Nov. 5. In the three days since Biden dropped out, she has shaken up a quiet race and brought new energy to Democrats, according to Reuters.
"She wants abortions in the eighth and ninth months of pregnancy, until birth and even after birth, execution of the babies," Trump also said, quoted by AFP.
Trump's rally began two hours before Biden, 81, addressed the nation from the Oval Office to explain why he had dropped out of the race amid mounting pressure from his fellow Democrats.
His decision followed a disastrous debate with Trump in June that heightened questions about his ability to win the election or lead the country for another four years if he does.
