A 5.3 magnitude earthquake was registered in Tokyo this evening, the country's government announced. This happens a day after the first ever warning of the risk of a huge earthquake was issued in the western part of the island nation, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said shortly after the earthquake that the government had received no reports of significant damage.

The epicenter is in Kanagawa Prefecture, located south of the capital at a depth of 10 km, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Kanagawa is not in the western zone along Japan's Pacific coast, known as the Nankai Fault, which was listed in yesterday's mega-earthquake warning of a magnitude greater than eight.

No tsunami warning has been issued after the government issued warnings to residents of Tokyo and Kanagawa, Saitama, Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures.

Some railway lines, including the bullet train “Shinkansen” stopped traffic in the Tokyo and Kanagawa areas.

There are no data on damages at the “Hamaoka” in Shizuoka or at the thermal power plants in Kanagawa, state media NHK reported.
