The Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Oleksiy Makeev, called on the government not to weaken its support for Ukraine, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Makeev has emphasized that the security of Europe depends on the ability and political will of Germany to continue playing a leading role in supporting Ukraine, writes in "Bild am Sonntag".
He expressed hope that the government would find ways to fund their common security needs and that the German parliament (Bundestag) would give a firm and clear ruling on the 2025 budget.
His comments came after an article in another newspaper stated that the German government does not yet plan to allocate additional funds for military support to Ukraine. C. "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sontagszeitung" refers to a letter from Finance Minister Christian Lindner dated August 5.
The letter, which was also accessed by DPA, suggested that future support for Ukraine could come from interest on frozen Russian state assets, as decided by the G-7 Group of Seven leading industrial nations.

Yesterday, a spokesman for Germany's finance ministry said the ministry was ready to consider providing additional funds in the short term. He stated that additional needs must be specifically reported and well explained in order to comply with all budgetary provisions, and that on this basis the approval of the Bundestag will be sought.
So far, the German finance ministry has not received a specific request, meaning it cannot be considered or approved, he added, shifting responsibility to the defense ministry.
