Temple stampede: Six pilgrims killed in stampede in India VIDEO

At least six people have died and over 50 have been injured in a stampede during a religious procession at a temple in the southern Indian state of Goa, NDTV reported.

According to the media, the tragedy occurred near the Shirgaon temple in the northern part of the state during an annual procession attended by thousands of pilgrims. According to eyewitnesses, a sudden panic broke out among the pilgrims, people began to quickly leave the procession, which led to the fatal stampede.

Emergency services and police arrived at the scene of the incident. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. An investigation has been launched.

According to preliminary data, the incident may have occurred due to insufficient measures to ensure order and control.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences for the tragedy.
